A feedbag (also known as a horse nose bag or morral), is a bag filled with a small amount of grain or pellets and attached to the head of a horse, enabling it to eat. The main advantages of feed bags are that only a small amount of the feed is wasted, and it prevents one animal from consuming the feed of another. It is generally made of leather, polyester or nylon fabric, heavy scrim or mesh, or canvas. If constructed of a solid fabric, the feedbag should have a ventilator for ease of breathing. Never fill the bag; allow the horse or mule to touch its head to the ground, allowing it to push its nose into the end of the bag. When a horse uses a feedbag for the first time, offering it in a hand-held position, without strapping it on, will allow the horse to become accustomed to it and can reduce the risk of the horse panicking. Care must be also taken to adjust the bag to ensure that the horse can breathe easily. Shop our selection of feed buckets, horse bells and more, today. |
